Welcome
Welcome to Durham Mennonite Church!
We celebrate Lent beginning Ash Wednesday, February25, with a vespers service from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Lent, the six weeks leading up to Easter, is an opportunity to re-condition our discipleship for our ongoing contest in the world against sin. We begin on Ash Wednesday with confession and a remembrance of our frailty and mortality. We end in Holy Week with a love feast and footwashing on Maundy Thursday, remembering the last meal of Jesus with his first disciples, and with a Service of Darkness on Good Friday, remembering the self-giving death of Jesus for our lives.
Maundy Thursday, April 9, 6:00 pm — Love Feast and Foot Washing.
Good Friday, April 10, 7:00 pm — Service of Darkness (Tenebrae)
Holy Saturday, April 11, 5:00 pm — Vespers Service
Easter Sunday, April 12, 9:00 am — Easter Breakfast and Egg Hunt
We worship together on Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and we also have Bible study classes earlier, at 9:30 a.m. Our meeting place is 603 Lynn Rd., Durham, NC 27703. SPECIAL GAZA APPEAL
Since the recent military assault on the Gaza territory, Mennonite Central Committee partner organizations in Gaza have been distributing food, water and blankets to Gazans who have lost their homes.
The Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, under the direction of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, provides emergency care to Gaza residents, many of whom have no means or access to medical care. The hospital is located in a community in which 60% of the residents live in refugee camps. The current Gaza conflict has brought large numbers of wounded to the hospital and stretched it’s abilities to meet demand. Your assistance will enable the dedicated staff to continue their humanitarian work. Click here for a January 14th update from the hospital. Before Israel’s military operations began on Dec. 27, humanitarian conditions were already desperate in Gaza due to an 18-month economic blockade, according to Rick Janzen, a director of MCC’s programs in the Middle East and Europe. Last February, MCC sent a container of blankets, relief kits, school kits and health kits to Gaza and provided $25,000 to purchase food in Gaza. In December, MCC approved an additional $25,000 to provide food and other supplies. Please visit the MCC website on our Links page.
